Come see our three adorable hedgehogs. They have bright eyes and wiggly noses and are just waiting for the right person to take them home.
Hedgehogs are quiet nocturnal animals, but they do make happy snuffling and purring sounds. Hedgehogs are insectivores and require special high protein-low fat food readily available at pet stores. Never feed your hedgie grapes, avocados, nuts or raisins as they may harm your pet.
Life spans for hedgies vary from 9 years to the average 3 to 5 years. They fit into the palm of your hand and weigh 1 to 1 ½ pounds. Proper socialization is necessary so you must pay attention to your pet every day. They don’t like loud noises or rough handling.
Hedgehogs need a water bottle, food dish, and a den to hide away during the day. They must have an exerciser wheel as they need the exercise. Hedgehogs do not need another hedgie to keep them company. They prefer to be by them selves. However, hedgehogs may enjoy soft cat toys or stuffed animals for entertainment.
Hedgehogs are fun
Hedgehogs are neat
Hedgehogs love to run
They also purr and tweet.

The pH is a very important parameter in the biology of aquatic organisms. It is a measure of the acidity of the water. The scale runs from zero to 14. Zero is the most acidic, 7 is neutral and 14 is the most basic. A change of 1 pH unit, for example from 7 to 6, means that the water gets 10 times more acidic. Read the rest here »

In the article Pest Removal Using Invertebrates, I talked about several species of invertebrates that can help eliminate nuisance algae and various pest species from your aquariums. This article will do the same, but will be talking about fish that can help eliminate and control various algae and invertebrate pests. Same rules apply to fish, they can’t read, and often don’t know what they are supposed to eat and what they are not supposed to eat. These suggestions are guidelines only, and you should monitor any new additions carefully. Read the rest here »

There are many different types of invertebrates that will help you control common aquarium pests. All of these should be maintained in a copper/medicine free invert only or reef tank. Some of them also will cause some problems of their own, and I will attempt to list them all. Caution is always required when adding new species to any tank. Every tank is different, and the interaction between species is difficult to predict. Remember, invertebrates and fish do not know how to read, so they often don’t know what they are supposed to eat and what they are not supposed to eat. Read the rest here »

If all a new hobbyist were to do was gloss over the medicine aisle at his favorite local fish store and observe the proliferation of garlic-based treatments, or peruse the various online postings of garlic’s proponents, he would surely come away with several likely impressions: Read the rest here »

This entire article is nothing more than my own personal opinion. But that opinion has developed during my 13 years of marine aquarium keeping as well as my 10 years of working full-time in the ornamental fish industry. I offer it not so much as a definitive statement, but as a guide to what I go through and what I look for when purchasing fishes, and as an aid to my fellow aquarists.
